✨Acupuncture for De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis✨
Having pain over the thumb side of the wrist? 🤙🏻 It’s caused by repetitive forceful movements of the wrist and thumb while gripping an object tightly 🫰🏼, such as lifting young children for new parents and grandparents.🤱🏻
The muscles that control thumb extension: abductor pollicis longus muscle and the extensor pollicis brevis muscle 💪🏻 have tendons that are protected by a tendon sheath called extensor retinaculum. However, increased frictional forces to the wrist cause the tendon sheath to tightly entrap the tendons causing wrist pain. 🧶
Acupuncture targets trigger points on the two muscles 🪢, releasing the tight and overused contracted muscles. 🧵
The traditional Chinese acupuncture points used are: Li-4, Li-5, Lu-7, SJ-8, SJ-9, along with 💫Ashi points💫阿是穴 found by palpation, which are different for each person and each case. 💆🏻♀️
Moxibustion🌿 to the affected area also help the muscles of the thumb to become relaxed, and releases the stressover the tendon sheath, 🧘🏻♀️thereby relieving pain and healing the wrist.
For full recovery, 📶 weekly or bi-weekly visits to TCM practitioner for 4-6 weeks are recommended. 🕰️
